For Nabukenya Annet, every evening once came with an impossible decision.
Inside her home in Bukalango, Wakiso District, the question repeated itself night after night:
Should she buy candles for light?
Or save the money for her children’s school fees?
For families already struggling financially, even the smallest daily expenses become painful sacrifices. Candles consumed money constantly, yet still brought weak light, smoke, and danger into the home.
And one night, the danger became real.
A candle flame burned part of the family’s mosquito nets, threatening the safety of the household and reminding Annet how quickly darkness could turn into disaster.
From that moment, nights carried fear alongside financial pressure.
But without reliable electricity, she had few alternatives.
Then Solar M7 arrived.
And suddenly, the choices that once haunted her evenings began to disappear.
Today, her home is filled with safe, steady light. The money once spent repeatedly on candles can now help support school fees and other important family needs. Her children study more comfortably. And the fear of fire no longer follows the family through the night.
For Annet, the relief feels overwhelming.
“Before Solar M7, life was difficult because every small amount of money mattered,” she shared during her interview. “Candles were expensive and dangerous, but now the children can study safely, and I can save money for school.”
According to Doreen Nanfuka, many mothers across underserved communities are forced into impossible financial choices created by lack of reliable energy access.
“When families spend constantly on candles and unsafe lighting, it affects everything else, food, education, healthcare, and peace of mind,” Doreen explained. “Reliable solar light helps remove some of those daily pressures from already struggling households.”
Innocent Kawooya says stories like Annet’s reveal how energy access directly affects financial stability and educational continuity for families.
“When parents stop losing money to unsafe and inefficient lighting, they regain the ability to invest more into their children’s future,” he noted. “That is where long-term transformation begins.”
Today, evenings inside Annet’s home no longer feel filled with impossible choices.
The children remain in school.
The home feels safe again.
And in a house where candles once threatened both survival and opportunity, Solar M7 is helping a mother reclaim something deeply important.
Freedom. Freedom from fear. Freedom from sacrifice. And freedom to believe in a brighter future for her children.
