At 77 years old, Galemye Godfrey still wakes each morning determined to work for his family.
In Kasenge Nakawuka, he survives through two skills that have supported him for years, farming and repairing bicycles for people across the community. His hands remain experienced, steady, and hardworking despite his age.
But before Solar M7 arrived, darkness kept cutting his workday short.
As evening approached, his small workshop would fall silent. The tools disappeared into darkness. Customers arriving later in the day often had to turn away because there was simply no safe way to continue working after sunset.
And for a man depending on every repair to support his household, those lost hours meant lost income.
The darkness slowly weakened his livelihood.
Clients left. Earnings shrank. And every evening felt like opportunity slipping away too soon.
Then Solar M7 arrived. And suddenly, the workshop came alive again.
Today, reliable solar light allows Godfrey to continue repairing bicycles into the evening. Customers no longer have to leave because darkness has fallen. The workshop remains active after sunset, and the additional hours of work are helping improve the family’s income and wellbeing.
For Godfrey, the transformation feels like dignity restored through productivity.
“Before Solar M7, darkness stopped my work early every day,” Godfrey shared during his interview. “Now I continue repairing bicycles at night, earn more money, and support my family better.”
According to Doreen Nanfuka, reliable lighting creates immediate economic impact for small-scale workers and informal businesses in rural communities.
“When people can continue working safely after sunset, their productivity and income improve,” Doreen explained. “Reliable light helps small businesses survive, grow, and support entire households.”
Innocent Kawooya says stories like Godfrey’s show how energy access strengthens local economies and protects livelihoods.
“Reliable light gives hardworking people more productive hours and greater opportunity to earn,” he noted. “It supports economic dignity, household stability, and community resilience.”
Today, evenings inside Godfrey’s workshop no longer feel silent.
The tools remain active.
Customers continue arriving.
And in a place where darkness once threatened to destroy an elderly man’s livelihood, Solar M7 is now helping restore something deeply important.
Work. Income. And the dignity of providing for a family through honest labor.
