For 80-year-old Kibirige Sebastian, darkness once controlled his entire life after sunset.
The elderly farmer from Kamengo, Mpigi District lived with sickness that weakened his body and made movement difficult. But when night came, the struggle became even more painful.
Every evening followed the same routine. Eat early. Move carefully. Then crawl into bed by 6:30 pm. Not because he was ready to sleep. But because he feared the darkness too much to move again.
Inside the unlit house, every step felt dangerous. His illness already made him vulnerable, and darkness turned even simple movement into a frightening risk. So Sebastian began ending his evenings early, trapped inside a routine built entirely around fear.
For him, darkness became a prison. It stole his freedom. It stole his comfort. And slowly, it stole the feeling that life could still be lived fully after sunset.
Then Solar M7 arrived. And for the first time in years, the nights inside his home began to feel open again.
Today, reliable solar light fills Sebastian’s house after sunset, allowing him to move more safely and confidently around his home. The fear that once forced him into bed early has reduced dramatically. He now remains awake longer, living through his evenings instead of hiding from them.
For Sebastian, the transformation feels like freedom restored.
“Before Solar M7, I feared moving at night because darkness made everything dangerous for me,” Sebastian shared during his interview. “Now I feel safer, more comfortable, and able to enjoy my evenings again.”
According to Doreen Nanfuka, elderly people living with illness or physical weakness are among the most vulnerable to unsafe nighttime conditions.
“When older people stop fearing movement inside their own homes, you immediately see emotional relief return,” Doreen explained. “Reliable light restores independence, dignity, and confidence.”
Innocent Kawooya says stories like Sebastian’s reveal how energy access helps restore quality of life for elderly and vulnerable people.
“Reliable light helps people reclaim their homes, their evenings, and their sense of freedom,” he noted. “No one should feel imprisoned by darkness inside their own house.”
Today, nights inside Sebastian’s home no longer end in fear at sunset.
The house feels safe again.
The evenings belong to him once more.
And in a life where darkness once forced an elderly man to retreat from the world too early, Solar M7 is now helping restore something deeply precious.
Freedom. Comfort. And the dignity of living fully after dark again.
