Inside Nantume Jane’s home in Bukalango, Wakiso District, three generations live side by side under one roof.
Children. A sick mother.
And a 102-year-old grandmother whose life stretches across more than a century of memories, struggles, and survival.
Every day, Jane carries the responsibility of caring for them all.
She nurtures the young. She supports the sick. She protects the elderly.
But before Solar M7 arrived, darkness made that responsibility painfully difficult.
When evening came, candlelight was never enough. The dim flames barely reached across the room. Children struggled to study properly. Caring for elderly family members at night became stressful and exhausting. Moving safely around the home required caution with every step.
And for a family depending on one woman’s strength to hold everything together, the nights often felt overwhelming.
Then Solar M7 entered their home.
And slowly, everything began to change.
Tonight, the house glows warmly after sunset. The children now study beneath reliable light, their books open with renewed confidence. Jane can care for her mother and elderly grandmother more safely and comfortably during the night. The home no longer feels consumed by darkness and limitation.
Instead, it feels filled with life again.
“For a long time, nights were very difficult for our family,” Jane shared during her interview. “Now the children can study well, and I can care for my mother and grandmother without struggling in darkness.”
According to Doreen Nanfuka, multigenerational households are among the families most deeply affected by energy poverty because darkness impacts both caregiving and education simultaneously.
“When homes carry both young children and elderly people, reliable light becomes extremely important,” Doreen explained. “It supports learning, improves caregiving, and helps families live with greater dignity and comfort.”
Innocent Kawooya says stories like Jane’s reveal how energy access strengthens the emotional and practical foundations of family life.
“Reliable light supports the ability to nurture, protect, educate, and care for loved ones,” he noted. “It helps families continue supporting one another even under difficult circumstances.”
Today, evenings inside Jane’s home feel different.
The young continue learning.
The elderly are cared for with dignity.
And in a house where candlelight once struggled to hold three generations together, Solar M7 now shines as something far greater than electricity.
It shines as care. As strength. And as hope shared across generations.
