A #100DaysofSolar Human Impact Story from Kasenge Nakawuka, Uganda
At just 20 years old, Namutebi Jane already carries the exhausting responsibility of caring for a crowded household of eight people in Kasenge Nakawuka.
Children filled the home with energy and movement.
But before Solar M7 arrived, the nights often filled it with pain instead.
When darkness swallowed the house after sunset, accidents became common. Children bumped into walls and furniture they could not see. Babies cried after getting hurt moving through the darkness. Simple moments of family life became stressful because every evening carried the risk of another injury.
For Jane, motherhood felt constantly tense after nightfall. She worried every time the children moved around the room. Every cry brought panic. And every evening reminded her how dangerous darkness had become for the family.
The home no longer felt peaceful at night. It felt unsafe. Then Solar M7 arrived. And suddenly, everything inside the house began to change.
Today, reliable solar light fills the home after sunset. The children now move around confidently and safely without stumbling through darkness. Jane cares for her babies with ease instead of fear. The constant anxiety that once followed every evening has slowly disappeared.
For the first time in a long while, nights feel calm again.
“Before Solar M7, the children were always getting hurt in darkness,” Jane shared during her interview. “Now they move safely, the babies are comfortable, and the home feels peaceful.”
According to Doreen Nanfuka, overcrowded homes without reliable lighting often expose children and caregivers to avoidable accidents and emotional stress.
“When homes remain dark, children become vulnerable to injuries and parents live in constant worry,” Doreen explained. “Reliable light creates safer environments where families can rest, care for children, and live more comfortably.”
Innocent Kawooya says stories like Jane’s show how energy access directly affects safety and emotional wellbeing inside families.
“Reliable light helps parents protect children more effectively and creates calmer, safer homes,” he noted. “No family should spend every evening fearing preventable accidents caused by darkness.”
Today, nights inside Jane’s home no longer feel filled with bruises and panic.
Children move freely. Babies rest peacefully. And in a house where darkness once stole safety and joy from a young family, Solar M7 is now helping restore something every home deserves.
