For many years, Kenguto Joyce lived quietly beneath the weight of loneliness and darkness.
Originally from Mbarara and now living alone in Kamengo, Mpigi District, the 67-year-old spent her days trying to survive one small struggle at a time.
Finding kerosene became part of daily life.
Borrowing light became routine.
And charging a phone often meant another difficult journey and another painful expense she could barely afford.
For Joyce, the burden was not only financial. It slowly wore down her spirit. Every request for kerosene felt humiliating. Every candle reminded her how fragile life had become. And every night brought fear into a home that felt increasingly isolated and forgotten.
Darkness did not simply surround her house.
It drowned her joy.
Then Solar M7 arrived. And slowly, the heaviness began lifting from her life.
Today, reliable solar light fills Joyce’s home after sunset. Her phone now charges safely from home. The dependence on candles and borrowed kerosene has disappeared. And inside the once-dark house, something beautiful has returned.
Her smile.
For Joyce, the light restored more than visibility. It restored hope.
“Before Solar M7, life was difficult because I depended on others even for basic light,” Joyce shared during her interview. “Now I feel peaceful, independent, and hopeful again about tomorrow.”
According to Doreen Nanfuka, elderly people living alone often experience emotional isolation worsened by lack of reliable energy access.
“When older people regain light and independence inside their homes, you immediately see emotional transformation,” Doreen explained. “Reliable light restores dignity, confidence, and happiness.”
Innocent Kawooya says stories like Joyce’s show how energy access can restore emotional wellbeing and human dignity for vulnerable people.
“Reliable light helps people feel connected, respected, and hopeful again,” he noted. “It transforms homes from places of struggle into places of peace.”
Today, nights inside Joyce’s home no longer feel lonely or hopeless.
The candles are gone. The fear has faded. And in a house where darkness once drowned an elderly woman’s joy, Solar M7 is now helping carry something precious forward again.
Hope. Independence. And dreams for tomorrow.
