Every morning in Bwerenga Kawuku, Nansamba Jessica walks toward the shoreline carrying the weight of survival in her hands.
By day, she washes clothes beneath the sun, scrubbing endlessly so her children can eat, live, and remain in school. The work is exhausting. Water, soap, fabric, and aching hands fill her days. But for Jessica, dignity has always meant continuing no matter how difficult life becomes.
Still, it was the nights that frightened her most.
When darkness arrived, the small candle inside their home became both necessity and danger. Jessica held her children close each evening, terrified that one accidental movement could destroy everything they had struggled to protect.
And one night, it nearly did. A single flame almost turned the entire house into ashes. The fear that followed never truly left her.
Even after the candle was extinguished, Jessica continued sleeping lightly, listening carefully through the darkness, bracing herself for disaster to strike again. Every flicker of fire carried panic. Every evening felt uncertain.
For her, darkness no longer represented nighttime. It represented danger waiting silently beside her children.
Then Solar M7 arrived. And for the first time in years, the nights inside her home became peaceful again.

“Before Solar M7, I feared every night because the candle nearly burned our house,” Jessica shared during her interview. “Now my children sleep safely, and my heart finally rests peacefully.”
According to Doreen Nanfuka, many mothers living in energy-poor communities carry constant emotional stress caused by unsafe lighting conditions.
“When families survive near open flames every night, fear becomes part of daily life,” Doreen explained. “Reliable light removes danger and restores emotional peace inside the home.”
Innocent Kawooya says stories like Jessica’s show how energy access protects both physical safety and emotional wellbeing for vulnerable families.
“Reliable light helps parents protect their children and sleep without fear,” he noted. “It transforms homes from places of danger into places of peace.”
Today, nights inside Jessica’s home no longer feel haunted by the memory of fire.
The candles are gone. The fear has faded. Her children sleep safely beneath steady light. And in a home where darkness once threatened to destroy everything a mother had fought to build, Solar M7 is now helping restore something profoundly important.
