Nakaseke District has launched a Shs590 billion Luweero Coffee Park, a flagship agro-industrial project expected to transform Uganda’s coffee sector and boost exports.
The facility, located in Butalangu Town Council, sits on more than 40 acres and is being developed by Nonda Coffee Commodities Limited. Once completed in two years, it will process over 45 million kilograms of coffee annually, creating more than 5,000 direct jobs and offering farmers a guaranteed market.
Speaking at the launch, State Minister for Kampala and Nakaseke MP Joseph Kabuye Kyofatogabye hailed the project as a “game changer” for the region. He urged farmers to expand coffee production, noting that the factory’s demand will secure livelihoods and strengthen Uganda’s position in global trade.
Nonda Coffee Commodities founder Tonny Miiro Kibuuka emphasized quality assurance, pledging to support farmers in producing chemical-free crops that meet international standards. He revealed that the company has already secured buyers in Saudi Arabia, ensuring a stable export market.
Nakaseke District Chairperson Ignatius Koomu Kiwanuka described the investment as a milestone in the region’s economic transformation, highlighting its potential to uplift household incomes and diversify agro-processing beyond coffee to include vanilla, cocoa, and dairy products.
Local leaders also called for environmental safeguards, urging investors to plant trees and maintain landscaping to reduce dust pollution. Training programs will be rolled out to equip farmers with modern, sustainable practices.
The Luweero Coffee Park is expected to position Greater Luweero as a hub for agro-industrial growth, marking Uganda’s shift from exporting raw beans to value-added coffee products for international markets.
