MTN Mobile Money (MoMo) Uganda, in partnership with Next Travel, has launched “Travel by MoMo,” a new digital platform aimed at making air travel more accessible and convenient for Ugandans.
The service allows users to search, compare, and pay for flights directly from their mobile phones via the MoMo App, removing traditional barriers associated with booking international travel.
Speaking at the launch in Kampala, MTN MoMo Uganda Managing Director Phrase Lubega said the platform reflects the company’s broader vision of using technology to solve everyday challenges.
“Our vision continues to shape how we innovate, making it easier for customers to pay, save, invest, and access essential services through one trusted platform,” Lubega said. “Today, we are bringing that same convenience to travel.”
Powered by Next Travel, “Travel by MoMo” enables customers to browse flights across multiple airlines, compare schedules and prices, and select the best option—all in one place. Users can view fares in Uganda Shillings and complete payments securely using their MTN MoMo wallet, eliminating the need for international credit cards that have historically been a hurdle for many.
MTN MoMo Uganda Chief Product Officer Jemima Kariuki said the platform gives customers greater control over how they plan and pay for travel.
“Customers can browse flights across multiple airlines, compare schedules and prices, select the option that works for them, and pay securely with MoMo, all in one place,” Kariuki said. “This removes one of the barriers that has prevented many people from booking flights online.”
The launch is only the beginning. Over the coming months, MTN MoMo and Next Travel plan to introduce additional features to further enhance the “Travel by MoMo” experience.
“These capabilities will give customers greater flexibility and more control over their journeys as the platform continues to evolve,” Kariuki added. “We are excited to introduce this solution to the market, and we look forward to seeing more Ugandans experience the convenience of planning and booking their journeys through Travel by MoMo.”
“Travel by MoMo” is now available to all MTN MoMo users, offering a locally tailored solution that promises to simplify travel planning and bring the world closer to Ugandans.
