Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has married his long-time partner, model and influencer Georgina RodrÃguez, in a civil ceremony in Portugal, bringing an end to years of speculation about when the couple would officially tie the knot.
The Portuguese striker confirmed the news on his Instagram account, posting an image of two hands, presumed to be his on top of his wife’s, both wearing wedding rings. The post garnered more than three million likes within 30 minutes of being shared.
The couple have been together for 10 years, having met when RodrÃguez was working at a Gucci shop in Madrid, where Ronaldo was playing for Real Madrid at the time. They announced their engagement on 11 August last year, with RodrÃguez posting a picture of a huge diamond ring, writing “Yes I do. In this and in all my lives” in her native Spanish.
Portuguese media have dubbed it the wedding of the year, reporting that the couple tied the knot on 11 August in the coastal town of Cascais, near Lisbon. Their five children were reportedly in attendance.
Ronaldo has five children in total, two of whom he shares with RodrÃguez: Alana Martina, born in 2017, and Bella, born in April 2022 alongside a twin brother who tragically died. RodrÃguez has also helped to raise his other three children, and the family currently live in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh, where Ronaldo plays for Al-Nassr.
Ronaldo, 41, is one of the most decorated footballers in history. He has scored nearly 1,000 goals in a career that has seen him play for Sporting, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, Al Nassr, and the Portuguese national team. He is a five-time Ballon d’Or winner and recently captained Portugal in his sixth and final World Cup.
His current club Al-Nassr confirmed last year that he had signed a new two-year contract, keeping him with the Riyadh-based club until 2027. Last year, the Bloomberg Billionaires Index valued Ronaldo’s net worth at $1.4bn (£1.04bn), making him the first billionaire football player.
