A #100DaysofSolar Human Impact Story from Kasenge Nakawuka, Uganda
For Mbatudde Rebecca, nighttime once brought exhaustion instead of rest.
The 44-year-old farmer from Kasenge Nakawuka spent her days working hard to provide for her family, only to face another battle when darkness arrived each evening.
Safari ants invaded the home relentlessly.
In the middle of the night, Rebecca and her children would wake to painful bites crawling across their skin. The darkness made it difficult to see where the insects were coming from or how to protect the children quickly enough.
Night after night, sleep disappeared. Rest became impossible. And for Rebecca, the home no longer felt safe after sunset.
The darkness seemed to invite fear and discomfort into every corner of the house. Then Solar M7 arrived. And slowly, peace returned.
Today, reliable solar light fills Rebecca’s home after sunset. The family now sees clearly around the house, making it easier to keep insects away and respond quickly whenever problems arise. The nights no longer feel controlled by fear and discomfort.
Instead, the home feels calm. Protected. Restful again.
“Before Solar M7, nights were very difficult because the safari ants disturbed us constantly,” Rebecca shared during her interview. “Now the house is brighter, the children sleep better, and we finally feel peaceful again.”
According to Doreen Nanfuka, poor lighting conditions often worsen household health and safety challenges in rural communities.
“When homes remain dark, families struggle to respond to insects, pests, and other dangers at night,” Doreen explained. “Reliable light improves safety, hygiene, comfort, and emotional wellbeing inside the household.”
Innocent Kawooya says stories like Rebecca’s show how energy access affects even the most basic human needs, including sleep, comfort, and peace of mind.
“Reliable light helps families reclaim safe and restful nights,” he noted. “It improves wellbeing in ways many people outside these communities may never fully realise.”
Today, nights inside Rebecca’s home no longer feel filled with fear and sleeplessness.
The children rest peacefully. The insects no longer control the night. And in a house where darkness once stole comfort from an entire family, Solar M7 is now helping restore something deeply important.
Rest. Safety. And peace inside the home again.
