A #100DaysofSolar Human Impact Story from Bukalango, Wakiso District, Uganda
Every day in Bukalango, Wakiso District, Dr. David Mwesigwa opens the doors of his rural clinic to patients searching for relief, healing, and hope.
Some arrive carrying sick children.
Others come seeking treatment after enduring pain for days.
Many are women needing urgent care, guidance, or reassurance.
On average, Dr. Mwesigwa treats around 15 patients every single day, quietly serving a community where access to healthcare is often fragile and limited.
But before Solar M7 arrived, darkness created dangerous uncertainty inside the clinic.
When night came, emergencies became far more difficult to manage. Treating patients safely after sunset was challenging. Visibility dropped. Stress increased. And in moments where every second mattered, lack of reliable light placed both patients and healthcare workers at risk.
For families arriving late at night seeking help, the darkness felt frightening.
Because illness does not wait for daylight. Then Solar M7 arrived. And suddenly, the clinic changed.
Today, reliable solar light shines through the building after sunset. Patients continue receiving care safely at night. Emergencies are handled with greater confidence. Mothers seeking urgent attention no longer walk into darkness when they enter the clinic doors.
The atmosphere now feels safer. Calmer. More prepared to protect life.
“Before Solar M7, nighttime treatment was very difficult,” Dr. Mwesigwa shared during his interview. “Now we can continue caring for patients safely after sunset, and the community feels more secure knowing help remains available.”
According to Doreen Nanfuka, healthcare facilities in underserved communities are among the places where reliable energy creates immediate life-saving impact.
“When clinics gain reliable light, everything changes,” Doreen explained. “Healthcare workers respond better to emergencies, patients feel safer, and communities gain confidence in accessing care at any hour.”
Innocent Kawooya says strengthening healthcare systems through energy access remains a critical goal of #100DaysofSolar.
“Reliable light directly supports safer treatment, emergency response, maternal care, and overall community wellbeing,” he noted. “No patient should face danger simply because a clinic lacks power after dark.”
Today, nights inside Dr. Mwesigwa’s clinic no longer feel uncertain.
Patients continue receiving care. Emergencies are managed more safely.
And in a rural clinic where darkness once threatened lives, Solar M7 is now shining as something far greater than electricity.
