A #100DaysofSolar Human Impact Story from Sentema, Wakiso District, Uganda
When 52-year-old Annet Nannono returned home to Sentema from Masaka, she returned with very little.
But she still carried the courage to begin again.
Life had not been easy for her family. Every evening, darkness would slowly swallow the house, leaving her children struggling to study under weak candlelight that barely lit the room. The shadows outside always felt alive with fear.
People spoke constantly about thieves moving through the community at night.
Others feared snakes. And then there were the night dancers whose presence terrified many families after sunset.
For Annet, nights never truly felt peaceful.
She worried about her children. She worried about their future. Sometimes, she simply sat quietly and prayed for better days.
Then Solar M7 arrived.
The first evening the light flickered on inside her home, Annet says her heart almost jumped with joy.
Suddenly, the room felt different. Warmer. Safer. Alive.
Her children immediately gathered beneath the light, laughing as they read aloud together. Their faces glowed with excitement and wonder, as though the house itself had finally breathed again after years of silence.
For the first time in a very long while, Annet felt something she had nearly lost.
Hope.
“Before Solar M7, darkness controlled so much of our lives,” Annet shared during her interview. “The children struggled to read, and every night came with fear. But now, when evening comes, there is happiness in this house again.”
According to Doreen Nanfuka, many of the families visited during #100DaysofSolar are not simply lacking electricity, they are living without the sense of security and dignity that light brings into a home.
“When you speak to mothers like Annet, you realize this is deeply emotional,” Doreen explained. “The light changes how children learn, how families sleep, how safe people feel, and even how they think about tomorrow.”
Innocent Kawooya says every Solar M7 installation represents a chance for families to reclaim opportunity and hope.
“We are seeing homes transform emotionally, socially, and economically,” he noted. “This is not just about switching on a light. It is about helping families move forward again.”
Today, evenings inside Annet’s home no longer feel heavy.
Children read confidently. Laughter fills the room. And in a house where darkness once silenced her faith, light now sings every single night.
