MTN Uganda, Starlink Partner to Bridge Connectivity Gap in Remote Areas

MTN Uganda has partnered with Starlink to bring satellite-enabled connectivity to enterprise customers operating in remote, underserved, and hard-to-reach areas across the country, marking a significant step in the company’s efforts to bridge the digital divide.

The collaboration adds Starlink’s satellite capability to MTN Uganda’s enterprise solutions portfolio, offering an additional connectivity option where conventional infrastructure is limited or difficult to deploy. The initial offer will focus on enterprise customers in sectors where dependable connectivity is critical to service delivery and business continuity, including education, healthcare, agriculture, humanitarian response, energy, tourism, financial services, and government services.

The Uganda expansion forms part of MTN Group’s broader strategy to use Low-Earth-Orbit (LEO) satellite technology as a complementary layer to terrestrial networks. Across selected markets, MTN Group is exploring and deploying satellite partnerships to strengthen network resilience and extend connectivity where mobile and fibre infrastructure have practical limitations.

Sylvia Mulinge, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Uganda, said the partnership strengthens the company’s ability to support enterprise customers in remote and underserved areas with reliable satellite-enabled connectivity. “It adds an important capability to our existing network and enterprise solutions, helping us serve businesses, institutions and communities that need dependable connectivity beyond the reach of conventional infrastructure,” Mulinge said.

She added that the initiative is aligned to MTN Group’s wider satellite connectivity roadmap and the company’s ambition “to deliver the benefits of a modern connected life to everyone, everywhere.”

The partnership comes as MTN Uganda continues to invest in network expansion and digital inclusion, with a focus on connecting underserved communities and supporting the country’s digital transformation. By leveraging Starlink’s satellite technology, MTN Uganda aims to ensure that even the most remote businesses and institutions can access reliable connectivity, enabling them to participate fully in the digital economy.

The strategic move underscores MTN’s commitment to providing innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of its customers, particularly in sectors where connectivity is critical for service delivery, business continuity, and economic growth.
