The 95-Year-Old Elder Who Finally Sleeps Without Fear Again

A #100DaysofSolar Human Impact Story from Kasenge Nakawuka, Uganda

At 95 years old, Pascal Nyambele has lived through nearly a century of life, change, hardship, and survival.

In Kasenge Nakawuka, the elderly man spends most of his days quietly at home with his cat for companionship. But before Solar M7 arrived, the nights felt painfully long and frightening.

Darkness surrounded him completely.

And with age making movement slower and more difficult, Pascal often felt vulnerable inside his own home. He feared thieves moving unseen outside the house. He feared the disturbances and intimidation caused by night dancers roaming through the community after dark.

Every unfamiliar sound heightened his anxiety. Every shadow deepened the loneliness. And for a man who once lived with confidence and independence, the darkness slowly began stealing his courage.

The nights no longer felt peaceful. They felt helpless. Then Solar M7 arrived. And slowly, the fear that had followed him for years began to fade away.

Today, reliable solar light surrounds Pascal’s home after sunset. The house feels secure again. He now moves more confidently at night, rests more peacefully, and no longer feels trapped by the fear that darkness once carried into his life.

For Pascal, the transformation feels deeply personal.

“Before Solar M7, nights were difficult because I feared what might happen in darkness,” Pascal shared during his interview. “Now I feel safe at home, and I sleep with peace again.”

According to Doreen Nanfuka, elderly people living alone are among those most emotionally affected by unsafe nighttime conditions and energy poverty.

“When older people feel vulnerable inside their own homes, it deeply affects their emotional wellbeing and sense of dignity,” Doreen explained. “Reliable light helps restore confidence, comfort, and independence.”

Innocent Kawooya says stories like Pascal’s reveal how energy access can restore security and emotional peace to vulnerable members of society.

“Reliable light helps elderly people live with greater dignity, safety, and freedom,” he noted. “Everyone deserves to feel secure inside their home regardless of age.”

Today, nights inside Pascal’s home no longer feel controlled by fear. The darkness no longer steals his courage. The house feels peaceful again. And in a home where loneliness and fear once followed every sunset, Solar M7 is now helping restore something priceless.

Confidence. Freedom. And the dignity of growing old without fear.
