BIG BROTHER NAIJA HOUSEMATES PROMOTE ‘GIRL-CHILD’ EDUCATION

0

It was an exciting and fun-filled Sunday night as the housemates in the on-going Big Brother Naija reality TV show rose to lend their voices to the campaign for girl-child education. The housemates, led by Bisola, treated the viewing audience to a theme song titled “Let’s educate a girl-child’ in a bid to reiterate the imperative for a ‘girl-child’ education.

During their act, all the housemates teamed up, with each one of them displaying his or her creative skill and zeal to collectively pass across their very important message.

The fun last night took a different turn when Iyanya stepped on the stage, joining the list of musical artistes who have performed at the BBNaija reality TV show. The Kukere exponent rocked the live stage with one of his singles, ‘Up to something’ in which he featured Mr. Oreo. The live show was also spiced by former Big Brother Africa housemate, Tayo Faniran who treated the guests to his new single, ‘No calling and Dakun.’

The highlight of the night was when Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, the show host took on the housemates intermittently on romantic intrigues in the house. When Ebuka challenged Bisola over her intimacy with ThinTallTony, the starry-eyed Bisola did not deny her affection for the latter saying that it is a mutual thing.
She openly stated, “I like ThinTallTony very much… I’m comfortable with him,” adding that unlike Bally, he reciprocates her feeling. However, she is not oblivious of the fact that ThinTallTony is ‘into’ TBoss. When teased by Ebuka on her emphasis, ‘I love Tony very very very much.’ a blushing Bisola jokingly said, “It’s because he is TTT.”

Ebuka later meandered and teased Debbie-Rise and Bassey on their romantic connection in the house and they both admitted that they have some chemistry. The newly-wed, Marvis and Efe were also not spared as Marvis confessed that she has a soft spot for Efe, while the latter said, “Based on logistics, Marvis remains to be the lady after my heart”

To prepare the housemates for the challenge ahead of them, Tayo Faniran, during an interview with Ebuka advised the housemates to look beyond the ultimate prize, which he believes is transient and focus more on life after BBNaija.

As is the norm, the nomination show continues this evening and all the adrenalin of the housemates have begun to rise as Ebuka has informed them that either one or more housemates will be evicted next Sunday. Who will be the next to be evicted from the house?

• MTN Uganda Foundation commits community development investment of Ugx. 5 billion in 2017
• These will be part of the initiatives to celebrate 10 years of the MTN Foundation in Uganda
• The projects will fall in within the 3 focus areas; Education, Health and National Priority Areas

As the MTN Foundation celebrates 10 years of investing in community development in Uganda, the Board of Trustees of the Foundation today announced a commitment to invest up to UGX. 5 billion shillings into community transformation projects across the country.

The commitment was announced by the Chairman of the MTN Foundation, Mr. George William Egaddu who said, “The MTN Foundation has been around for the last 10 years and has made great strides in empowering the underserved communities. I believe that with this Ugx. 5billion shillings we will be able to expand the footprint of impact to more deserving communities across the country.”

The funds will go towards a number of projects that must fall within the three MTN Group Foundation approved categories namely; Education, Health and National Priorities. Key priority will however be placed on Education which forms the cornerstone of the MTN Foundation’s community development investment strategy.

The MTN Uganda Foundation is a non-profit entity that was inaugurated in July 2007 as a vehicle through which MTN Uganda implements its corporate social investments (CSI).

Speaking at the conference, MTN Uganda CEO, Wim Vanhelleputte mentioned that even before the inception of the MTN Uganda Foundation, MTN Ugandan carried out a number of initiatives in different communities of the country. Through the inception of MTN in 1998, MTN Uganda has contributed to social development and CSR programs to the tune of over UGX.30 billion.

From 2013, the MTN Foundation has focused investment on Education, Health and National Priority Areas and has proactively undertaken ICT for Education initiatives which have included; the massive role out of 16 regional ICT resource centers to enable access to quality education, the introduction of the MTN Internet Bus which provides computer training across the country and the skilling for the future initiative in partnership with the National Curriculum Development Centre initiative which is aimed at digitalizing the Uganda secondary school syllabus.

“MTN is honoured to play an active role in shaping the future of our country and what better way to do that than through Education. The world has gone digital and it’s only logical that our Education system embraces this new reality. That is why at MTN we are focusing on enabling education through introduction of technologies that enable and empower the leaner and the teacher to access quality informative and educational material wherever they are,” he concluded.

Some of the projects that have already been approved for this fund include; the MTN Foundation innovation Centre in partnership with Makerere University college of computing and information sciences. The Innovation Centre aims to enable and empower the youth to develop community impacting innovations through provision of a conducive environment to create, develop and implement innovations. The Centre will also work as an incubation Centre for startup companies developed through this program.

Other initiatives under the Education scope include the construction of 5 schools, one in each region of Uganda in partnership with an NGO partner PEAS. The Foundation will also donate a number of items to 5 regional hospitals including beds, blankets, mosquito nets and other materials as part of its focus on supporting the Health sector. There will also be a concerted effort to support key disaster preparedness and humanitarian initiatives around the country over the next couple of months in consultation with the Government. This will fulfill MTN Uganda Foundation’s commitment to supporting communities around the country.

Huawei Wins ‘Outstanding Contribution for LTE Evolution to 5G’ Award at MWC 2017

0

[Barcelona, Spain, February 28, 2017] Huawei received the ‘Outstanding Contribution for LTE Evolution to 5G’ award at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017. This year is the first year that GSMA has chosen to present the award for 5th generation mobile networks (5G) and receiving such an honor helps to showcase Huawei’s contribution to technology evolution.

“This is the first year that GSMA sets an outstanding contribution award for 5G. Huawei is honored to receive this award” said Mr. Xu Wenwei, Executive Director of the Board, Chief Strategy Marketing Officer, “The next few years will see continuous LTE development and 5G innovations. So, we need to do the preparation in all aspects, including network deployment and industry collaboration. During the 4.5G to 5G, Huawei will keep focusing on helping our customers to improve user experience, to step into all cloud era, to enable innovative services for vertical industries, and finally to build 5G with more vitality and longer lifecycle.”

68 4.5G networks were commercially deployed worldwide in 2016 and the number of networks deployed in 2017 is expected to reach 120.
Network evolution should begin with the evolution of network architecture. In 2016, Huawei launched its CloudRAN Solution, which is a technology that applies a cloudified architecture to the Radio Access Network (RAN) and can create a 4.5G and 5G oriented architecture integrating multiple radio access technologies (RATs), frequency bands, and layers. And it is also a foundation for E2E network slicing, providing operators with a way to realize the new business model of deploying diversified new services in one network. As an anchor for joining 4.5G and 5G, CloudRAN helps maximize network collaboration efficiency and helps operators produce business success.
Huawei is still insisting on continued investment in technical innovation in order to meet the challenge of the anticipated accelerated increase of future MBB network traffic. Huawei and the world’s leading operators engage in large-scale 5G NR field tests and 5G high and low frequency hybrid field tests. The results show that continuous coverage and super ultra-large capacity can be satisfied simultaneously, and a single-user peak of 25Gbps can be achieved.

In addition, Huawei and Deutsche Telekom have performed the millimeter-wave high-frequency test procedure and achieved a peak rate of 70 Gbps – an industry first. Huawei’s CloudAIR solution can promote the usage of the air interface resource and realize quick deployment of 5G NR and thus solve the problem about long-term coexistence with pre-existing RATs.

Meanwhile, by adopting 5G technology on 4G networks well in advance, Huawei and operators have jointly taken the lead in finishing the deployment of Massive MIMO in 4G live networks, providing good user experience and huge promotion of network capability.
In order to construct a new business model with industry, Huawei and vertical industry partners jointly succeeded in the incubation of many NB-IoT commercial use cases. Furthermore, Huawei announced X Labs in 2016, a new research platform that will bring together operators, technology providers, and vertical industry partners to jointly explore future use cases for mobile applications, and drive innovation in business and technology.
Huawei’s “4.5G Evolution to 5G” solution, which provides high-quality coverage, ultra-large capacity and flexible network architecture, can help operators to keep ahead on the road to 5G and help to make 5G a reality.

Mobile World Congress 2017 is being held in Barcelona, Spain from February 27 to March 2 this year. The Huawei exhibition area is in area 1J50 in Hall 1, area 3I30 in Hall 3, and the Innovative City exhibition area in Hall 4 in Fira Gran Via.
